EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT A PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER
Plate heat exchanger
Plate Heat Exchanger is used in major industries and processes as it has proven its reliability through the years. Plate heat exchangers are used to transfer heat between liquids or gases. A plate heat exchanger consists of thin metal plates soldered onto a steel frame and act as tube exchangers.
Why use a plate heat exchanger?
● The most important one is the energy savings. A plate heat exchanger can save up to 50% of the energy compared to a traditional shell and tube exchanger.
● Plate heat exchangers are compact, easy to clean and maintain. They have high heat transfer coefficients which mean they can be smaller than shell and tube exchangers with the same capacity.
● Plate heat exchangers are flexible and can be adapted to a wide range of temperatures and pressures, making them suitable for a wider range of applications than other types of heat exchangers
● Plate heat exchangers are versatile and can be used for heating or cooling liquids, for evaporating or condensing gasses, for pasteurization or sterilization liquids or for recovering energy from waste gasses. They can also be used as pre-heaters, coolers and condensers in many different processes such as gas liquefaction, refrigeration, air conditioning and power stations.
Construction and mode of operation
A plate heat exchanger consists of a number of thin metal plates that are joined together by gaskets or spot welding so that they form channels. The hot medium flows through one side of the channels while the cold medium flows through the other side. The two media are kept completely separated by means of a corrugated pattern in each plate which increases turbulence and effectively transfers heat between the two media.
High Temperatures and Pressure
The plate heat exchanger has been designed to work at high temperatures and pressures. The operating temperature of the plate heat exchanger is -30°C to +200°C, while the operating pressure is up to 30 bar for this product. BPHE-style gasketed plate heat exchangers have a design that can be used for air cooling or water cooling, depending on the cooling medium.
Application
Mostly the plate heat exchanger is used as a condenser or evaporator for refrigerants. The plate heat exchangers are also frequently used in the field of heating and cooling. In addition, the plate heat exchanger can be used in equipment such as boilers and plate heat exchangers, which lead to the rapid increase in their demand.
